The Origins
Do we know how the Dead came to be owning Holy Hill in the first place?
The Dead actually owned "Holy Hill" before it had a name. As for how it got the name….
John Sosonko, a powerful multi-house Christinite called in Souls, led a much more effective force than Momaar's (mainly because he was its leader; Momaar had ambition and John Sosonko's blind faith, but — in spite of likewise being a multi-house Lord of Souls — little of his true power) against the Dead many years ago, and though his expedition too might be regarded as a folly, he managed to take and hold a prominence within the Dead lands for a while. I don't remember if he was eventually forced to abandon it with his men in the face of too powerful an onslaught from the Dead or if he simply left at some point on other business, only to lose the hill as the Dead attacked it when he was away. At all events, due to his one-time heroics(?) there and the fact that he held it for a while in the name of his faith, the place came to be known as "Holy Hill," and has lured starry-eyed Christinites into self-destructive plans to recapture it ever since.
stuff to be fleshed out:
The Buildup
- John Momaarson's proposal to the Companions
- him heading out there and getting himself stuck high and dry
- Franklin and the Two Hundred getting called to Deathwatch to deal w/the situation but waiting for Momaar to go out first, b/c that's the "right way of doing it"
The Folly
- After Momaar gets himself trapped up there, send out Briann Yoshido's quaran(? is that what she's the boss of?) to pull them out - four days' march out, four days' fighting there, four days' march back
- Some special note paid to the "special ops" team that included Samuel and the Speakers and Sskie, who were doing fanciness
- have to practically pry Momaar and John out of the tower b/c they want to stay and finish the job… and before they leave, Briann's command's almost broken by her son "going rogue" and trying to kill her…
- Kurtus's "heroics"
The Aftermath
- Diana Anand blows the dead off them so they can roll into Deathwatch
- Diana then getting stabbed by an assassin, getting Chajun's Rot, disappearing into the wind to save herself for the moment.
- Momaar sent back to clean up his mess; John's supposed to go with him but Mrya intercedes and sends him off with the Companions instead…
